Electronic Medical Records

This year marks a turning point and a defining moment in the direction of Hampden County Physician Associates, LLC.  After several years of searching, the physician group has entered into an agreement to implement Allscripts Touchworks Electronic Medical Records (EMR) software.  Allscripts, a leading vendor in the EMR industry, was chosen based on the overall functionality of the system and the many benefits to patient care.

What is an Electronic Medical Record?

An Electronic Medical Record (EMR) is a computer version of patient chart which allows doctors to quickly and accurately document and retrieve patient information and create reminders when certain tests should be done.

Should I expect any changes when I visit my doctor’s office?

  • In the beginning your office visit may take longer as staff and physicians adjust to the EMR.  After your initial visit your information will be available whenever you call or visit the office.
  • Staff and physicians will enter information into the computer during your office visit.   It will be important for you to bring all your prescriptions into the office to help us accurately enter all of this information.

Electronic Prescribing
Electronic prescribing replaces handwritten prescriptions and gives physicians access to up-to-date information on medications including providing automatic alerts of unsafe drug interactions, improper dosage levels, adverse and allergic reactions and other potentially harmful situations.

Laboratory Results Interface
Your physicians will have immediate access to our laboratory results with a comparison to any past electronic results.  These results will come to your physician in a real time feed and notify the physician of any abnormal results.  We have also set-up an interface feed with Baystate Reference Lab and in the near future with Mercy Life Labs.

Physician Communication
If you need to see a physician other than your primary care physician within Hampden County Physician Associates, LLC, you can be assured that the physician has complete and accurate up-to-date access to all of your electronic medical record information.  Physicians outside Hampden County Physician Associates. LLC will receive information confidentially faxed to them.  In the future we hope all physicians are connected in some way to securely have access to information that will assist them in your care.
